There is a lot of talk about air pollution and how it’s damaging the environment, but not a whole lot of talk about soil pollution. Soil pollution is an issue that’s just as important as air pollution. Because soil pollution is in the ground, it is not that simple to detect. Soil could be tested for toxins and to what level are the pollutants present.
When water is contaminated, its run off can cause pollution of the soil. When this occurs, plants will not grow very well at all and you might not get any flowers or fruit production. Most of the foods we eat have been affected by pollution in the soil and aren’t very nutritious to eat. With the lack of healthy plants to remove the carbon monoxide from the air, the quality of our air continues to get worse. Almost all soil pollution has come about due to the neglect or blunder of human beings. What has happened is leaky storage tanks full of chemicals are buried in the ground thus leaking harmful chemicals into the soil. Often, anything able to grow is damaged, and very little is grown there for a long time.
Chemicals seep into the soil from a number of sources, including landfills. For a long time, garbage would be dumped with wild abandon and no concern for the possible health consequences. With rain or snow, the water could flush many chemicals in to the soil. This would be bad enough if it continued to be there, but underground the water can move anywhere, taking the chemicals with it. Today, lots of modern landfills are built to stop chemicals from seeping into the ground and reducing certain garbage from being dumped there.
The use of inorganic pesticides and the side effects on soil and wildlife have been well documented. Many environmental groups are lobbying the government to safeguard the soil from toxic chemicals. But recently, lots of farmers are going organic and government has enforced tough guidelines for selected pesticides. Companies have had to make changes, including using more things that are naturally degradable. The US has the biggest soil pollution trouble in the world. Breakthroughs in technology and disregard for the environment are the reasons of the polluted soil.
With more education, folks are starting to be more aware of soil pollution, and several things are being done about it. Many programs across the nation are trying to find ways to minimize the soil pollution. It’s great that most people are now into organic gardening, and being more mindful about their health.

Olympics minister Hugh Robertson has described demands for immediate transparency over sales of tickets for the London 2012 Games as ‘unreasonable’.
Robertson, speaking on the second day of the Track World Cup cycling event at the Olympic Velodrome, expressed surprise at the London Assembly’s demand to lift a perceived secrecy over the sale of tickets for the Olympics, which open on July 27.
